We brought a night of heat, passion and connection to Our Hood for our winter edition of Our Hood.
FBi Radio presented a fiery live music line-up, where everyone let loose to synth-funk R&B from The Goods, iconic hip hop and soul emcee Mirrah, and were serenaded by 20 sparkly femme fatales from Bad Bitch Choir, reworking all their 90s faves.
TEDxHaymarket kickstarted a very cosy night with talks and workshops on how to make meaningful personal connections in just 60 minutes, which carried through the night with new friends exploring the precinct.
Sydney Dancehall Royalty kept the hypnotic Afro-Caribbean rhythms flowing, taking you on a journey from Kingston to Lagos to carnival season in Port of Spain. Dj Naiki and Dj Kimani brought all the best hip hop, soul, reggae and dancehall to keep everyone moving, along with a killer closing set from the one and only Shantan Wantan Ichiban. In addition, Rhythm Seekers dance crew showed everyone how to whine like a pro with an explosive live performance and beginner dance class, lead by famed Sydney dancer Ama Ryllis.
For those who felt extra fabulous, our Flow Yoga was run by drag superstar Dusty Glass, where you could shake your asana in the sparkliest yoga class in the city.
Wandering upstairs took you through through a multi-media exhibition curated by BTW, exploring themes of combined cultural identities in Australia, and honouring past, embracing present, pondering future.
For those who wanted a moment to relax, our sound vibration installation by Peter Deigan, made for a cosy and sensory experience to reflect and enjoy waves of sound. Or for those who explored through the hidden curtains and doorways, discovered Life Drawing, rum speakeasy, lightbox installations and our barber shop by BeardsOn.
The mulled wine was flowing all night, as people perused the Locally Made markets, and warmed up with our delicious local food stalls. The first lucky 100 peeps also had free shots of our new kombucha collab with Tonicka, and scored a free limited edition Our Hood shirt designed by Joel Cameron and screenprinted fresh by Aisle6ix Industries. The bedazzling station next door by Millie Hall, meant every shirt was customised to your hearts content to be a true one off.
What a beautiful night! Thank you to all the incredible people who collaborated and came together for an amazing night of creativity and community. Check out the full gallery on facebook, and stay tuned for our Summer Edition.
