Introduction to 3D Design

  • COMMUNE Makers 19 Eve St Erskineville NSW

With the emergence of additive manufacturing 3D modelling has been coined to be a vital skill for the next industrial revolution. At COMMUNE Makers Place we believe 3D technologies will almost certainly blur the lines between design, maker and consumer. That is why we are providing accessible 3D design classes on the 1st Wednesday of each month.

We offer a range of 3D modelling classes led by community makers. Our classes on offer cater for beginners to more advanced makers. See below for what software we will be teaching each month.

If you are not sure which class is best for you email: info@makersplace.org.au

What To Bring

- A working laptop, charger and a mouse (we have a very limited few available)

- Depending on the class you take please download onto your laptop before the class

Wednesday 3rd Feb - TinkerCad (beginners)

TinkerCad is a free 3D modelling software for basic CAD. It provides a great introduction to thinking and seeing in 3D space. Tinkercad is for beginners who have little to no knowledge of CAD Design. This is recommended for the casual tinkerer or child who is curious to learn but doesn't want to commit to a highly professional and expensive program.

Please bring your own computer and mouse, Tinkercad is a web based app, you will need to start a new account

Wednesday 2nd March - 123D Design (Beginners to intermediate)

123D Design is a free CAD program with a very intuitive and user friendly interface. It is the next step up from our beginners class but would suit beginners who are fairly computer literate and new to CAD.

Please bring your own computer and mouse with the Free software already downloaded. http://www.123dapp.com/design

Wednesday 6th April - OpenSCAD (intermediate)

OpenSCAD is a free code based 3D Modeling program. Unlike any other modeling program it is entirely written from code and as such is ideal for engineering or machine parts rather than creative modelling. No background in coding is necessary, however a basic foundation in writing code would be helpful for your further pursuits.

Please bring your own computer and mouse with the Free software already downloaded.

Wednesday 4th May - Blender (advanced)

Blender is a free, open source 3D modelling program that allows you to move between modelling, animation and simple game development seamlessly. This is recommended for more advanced makers, particularly in the creative field who are looking to experiment with a CAD software that allows more creativity and organic flows.
