Looking fabulous this Mardi Gras starts at COMMUNE Makers Place! We're teaming up to serve enthusiastic Mardi Gras punters with cutting edge equipment, up-cycled materials and experienced makers all within the walls of a inner west warehouse. Pioneer of Sydney's queer scene DJ Cunningpants will be spinning tunes for you too. What better way to prepare for Gay Christmas!
We will provide gear like sewing machines, 3D Printers, vinyl cutters, t-shirt hot press, paint brushes, hand tools + more. Experienced Makers of our community are volunteering their time and knowledge to help you make your Mardi Gras costumes or props - Demonstrations will be running all day!
Basic Electronics & Programing - just incase you want to add some LED bling to your costume
What materials are provided:
All the essentials! We will have tonnes of stuff for you to upcycle including fabrics, paints, basic sewing materials, cardboard, styrofoam, metal and other nick nacks. Of course there will be glitter and feathers aplenty!
What should you bring:
If you have a particular look in mind we would advise you bring your own materials. Our collection will include essentials but will be somewhat eclectic.
If you are going to decorate existing clothes bring them.
Any special fabrics and niche decorative items
Our Mardi Gras Make-a-Thon is set to be the funnest way to learn new skills all year!
Cost: $85 per person
Ticket price includes entertainment from local DJ’s, light refreshments, all materials and equipment. 50 % of the events proceeds will be going back into our not for profit association. Makers Place Inc a community facility that provides tools and equipment required for invention to local makers at low cost. Makers Place Inc supports initiatives such as Ability Make-a-Thon’s. Time: 10am - 6pm - Demonstrations will run at various times throughout the day. A run sheet will be distributed closer to the event.
